If you have ever had the experience of losing a beloved pet, you realise how devastating it can be. You begin looking immediately and frantically, but until they are back home in your arms again, you never truly relax. For the man who lost his dog in this story, things took a rather humourous turn.
Luke lives in Culburra, a small surf town on the coast of New South Wales. He has been there for 12 months along with his brother and their dog, Bella, the pug.
Bella went missing over the weekend and the boys were in a panic. They were eating breakfast with the front door open when the pug slipped out. When they discovered Bella was missing, the hunt began.
They searched for hours in the area, telling everyone in the neighbourhood that Bella was missing. A photo was posted on Facebook so that anyone who lives in the area could keep an eye out for their dog.
That is when things escalated quickly.
A friend of Luke saw a sign that someone had found a pug. He assumed that it was Bella, so he picked her up to take her back to her master.
“My mate saw the sign and thought it was Bella,” Luke said. “So they picked up the pug and dropped it in my house.”
When Luke got home, he realised right away that Bella was not quite herself. He began to pet her but then realised something was off.
Luke now had a pug in the house, but it was not HIS pug.
Luke contacted the local counsel Ranger and they told him they had a pug matching Bella’s description at the pound. In the meantime, Luke still had the other pug that was named Not-Bella.
Luke found another pug in the local lost pets listings that had gone missing. They were desperately searching for their lost dog. He took Not-Bella back to them.
Not-Bella’s owner came back yesterday morning to confirm that the dog was hers. She had been searching for the little lost pug all day.
Luke took one last picture with the two pugs and then said his goodbyes. Not-Bella went home. All’s well that ends well!
