There is an old expression that a dog is man’s best friend. This dog is why that expression exists. In fact, you should be prepared to be absolutely amazed with what this pooch was able to do.
It started when Dion Leonard, an extreme marathon runner, ran a 155 mile race in China, in the middle of the Gobi desert. Now, thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, he is bringing an amazing dog home to Edinburg, Scotland.
The female dog, who has been named the Gobi by Leonard, joined him on the second day of the annual 4 deserts race series. He ran by his new human friend’s side for 77 miles!
Leonard said that he noticed a dog running with 101 other runners on the first day, but by the second day, Gobi was waiting for him at the starting line.
“This was the first contact I had with her and as I ran off the line I noticed her by my side. I didn’t speak much to her that day thinking she wouldn’t stay with me, but at the finish line she followed me into the tent and we slept next to each other. That was it then.”
During the race, Leonard was able to share his sleeping space as well as food and water with his new companion. He even gave her a helping hand when necessary.
“I carried her across rivers and over sluice gates she could not cross on her own.”

When the race was over, Leonard realized he had developed a special bond with the dog. He then started researching how he could bring Gobi back to the UK.
It turns out that bringing the dog back to the UK would cost $6560 USD. It would also take four months for the dog to be medically checked, quarantined and prepared for entry. He was able to raise that money and more with a crowd funder campaign.
Gobi is currently being cared for by a friend in China. He hopes to be reunited with the dog by Christmas and would consider it to be the best Christmas present ever.
