On July 3, 2014, Shannon Bettencourt found an abandoned dog with the words “free” written on its body in permanent marker, and “I need a home” on its forehead.
Bettencourt saw the dog standing by a tree in downtown Benicia, California. She decided to take the dog home and named it Libby.
A few days later, a Yolo County unnamed woman went to the Benicia Police Department and proved that she is the owner of the dog. She said she didn’t know how her dog ended up in Benicia.
