When a dog begins living in a shelter, it can be rather stressful on them. In many cases, they find themselves trapped in a kennel all day long. They may be safe while they are waiting for adoption and they could be taken care of by kind staff members, but they still miss the comforts of home.
There are a number of volunteers and staff members at the shelters who go above and beyond to make sure that the animals are comfortable. One Humane Society, however, took things to a higher level. They created a replica of a comfortable living room so that the animals could relax and enjoy the comforts of home.

Dogs tend to spend a lot of time in kennels when they are at an animal shelter waiting adoption. This Humane Society, however, decided to create a new way for dogs to feel comfortable while they wait for a new owner.
This real-life replica of an actual living room allows the dogs to relax in comfort. It includes a comfortable rug, recliner, lamp and even a television.
They converted the space from an old office and it’s a great resource for dogs who have a difficult time being social while spending time in cages.
“One of the best things is the lamp we put in there. That means we can turn off the fluorescent lights and have more soothing lighting in the room.”
They can either relax on their own or along with a volunteer. It allows people to see how they will react to a home environment.
It has already proven itself to be a great resource for getting dogs adopted.
It’s interesting how dogs respond to their environment. We hope that someday every shelter will make dogs this comfortable.
