Although hummingbirds are some of the smallest birds in the world, they are perhaps some of the most beautiful in existence. The tiny birds are known for flapping their wings quickly, allowing them to hover in midair and requiring a high-speed camera to capture their wings without being a blur.
Although we may see hummingbirds from time to time, we may not realize exactly how wonderful they are. They are not only unique animals, they have a personality, just like any other animal would have.
If you are somebody that loves hummingbirds or if you just love nature, you will appreciate what Tracy Johnson did. She took pictures of hummingbirds and then showcased them on her Instagram account. She takes the opportunity to photograph them anytime she can, and if you look at the pictures below, you will be thankful she does.
Tracy Johnson is a singer in California but she has a passion for hummingbirds. When she first saw the colors on hummingbirds, she had an interest in capturing them on film.
Prior to the time that she started photographing hummingbirds, she thought that their neck feathers were one color.
“Only after I started taking close-ups did I see the entire spectrum of the rainbow held within their iridescent feathers. Now I call them ‘flying rainbows.'”
The hummingbirds in her backyard surround her and love to sit on her hand.
She absolutely loves getting to know hummingbirds in this way.
She has kept a record of the different species of hummingbirds that she has seen. Included in those hummingbirds are black chinned, Calliope, Allen’s Rofus and Anna’s.
She has noticed that hummingbirds tend to be territorial and will defend their land aggressively.
Since they move quickly, they are difficult to photograph. If you want to try it for yourself, Johnson recommends that you are patient. They tend to hang around the same spots and branches, so you should do the same.
The true magnificence of hummingbirds are captured in her pictures. Since their feathers are dense, the colors appear rich and intense.
Male hummingbirds tend to be brightly colored with females having polkadot patterns.
Although Johnson loves many things about hummingbirds, she especially appreciates their temperament. She says they have a lot of personality for having such a tiny body
