Rescue Monkey Making Friends with All Types of Animals

If you have ever seen monkeys at the zoo, you recognize that they are not only fun to watch, they have a lot of personality as well. In Zimbabwe, an orphan monkey is living a rather unusual life and he is not only an animal that is inquisitive, he is completely full of love.

Unfortunately, Horus, the little monkey, lost his mother when he was quite young. He grew up in the Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary, but he was alone and a little scared. There weren’t enough individuals staffed at the sanctuary to give him the attention he truly needed, so he went into the area with other orphans and they grew up together.

Although the animals are quite mismatched, it is amazing to see the bond that they formed with each other. New animals continue to arrive at the facility, and Horace just seems to make friends with all of them. It just goes to show that, like many other animals, he is not lacking in unconditional love.

Horace is a monkey that has grown up in the Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary, located in Zimbabwe. He has been there since he was very young.

According to the sanctuary’s founder, Sarah Carter, his mother was hit by a car on the highway. He just happened to get picked up by the person who brought it there.

After arriving at the sanctuary, there weren’t enough volunteers to give individualized care. Although the orphans were put into the same area and they formed an amazing bond with each other.

The monkey was able to explore relationships with other species of animals.

4

He now spends his day playing with all of his friends from his childhood.

There have been other monkeys who have come to the sanctuary and Horace is quite content playing with his dog cat friends.

He runs around the middle of the night with the cats. All of the other monkeys go to sleep after it gets dark because it is instinctive for them to do so. All the while, Horace is the sanctuary with the felines.

After being rehabilitated, they are released into the wild. Not all animals are able to be released.

11

Horace could now leave the sanctuary, but he just loves sticking around.

12

Now that he is older, he is more of a leader in his little group. He had mentored other types of animals that arrive at the sanctuary.

According to Carter:

We get lots of orphaned animals coming in, so you can’t always pair them with the same animal. But for them to be able to be with another creature is really healing and comforting for them, no matter if they’re different.

We learned that from Horace. They form these amazing bonds. It just brings so much comfort to all of them.

13

Horace is a real comfort to all of the orphans at the sanctuary. He helps them to assimilate to life on the inside.

14

This is a reminder for all of us to be close to others and to form bonds that are unbreakable.

Carter considers Horace to be a very special member of the Twala family. He is able to find companionship among so many different species.

She also loves his personality and how it brightens their lives.
