One of the most devastating forms of natural disasters is a flood. When they occur, it can easily displace people from their homes and families. Although much of the focus for most people is on other humans who are affected by the flood waters, there are also many animals who face danger as well!
When the owners of the animals find themselves in a situation where they must flee for their lives, they may not have the opportunity to get back to the farm for the animals. The flood can also cut off access to the farm, leaving the animals in danger.
The size of the animal may also be a factor in some cases. If the farmer is dealing with a large farm animal, it may be difficult to house them properly. In some cases, they may simply be left to care for themselves.
When someone saw a donkey struggling in the water, however, they took action. They were determined to save this animal and to get him to dry land.
The donkey was in serious trouble, and the floodwaters were already just below his chest. If he took a wrong step, it could plunge him into the deeper water and cause him to be swept away. Fortunately, the struggling donkey was spotted by an animal lover as he tried to cross the rising tide. He took a picture, posted it to Facebook and asked for assistance in rescuing the donkey.
The response to that Facebook picture was amazing. Many people went straight to the area to provide the necessary assistance. A flotation device was rigged with plenty of rope, allowing the rescuers to secure the device around the neck of the donkey. He could then be dragged gently to the other side through the floodwaters.
When the donkey was pulled from the waters, the rescuers got a most incredible surprise! The smile on the donkey’s face says it all.
Although many people would consider a donkey to be stubborn, and that may sometimes be the case, they are also quite intelligent. The rescuers were amazed with how much effort the donkey put forth to assist them.
After arriving on dry ground, the flotation device was removed from the donkey and he showed his gratefulness by giving the biggest donkey smile of all time!
Although you may never have seen a donkey smile before, they are quite capable of doing so! Like all animals, donkeys can be expressive and they certainly have emotions. It was nice that this donkey gave his rescuers a unique treat that they will remember for a very long time.
