When somebody is famous, they may use their influence in many different ways. They might not even be directly attached to the situation but the fact that they have a large following means that their voices are going to be heard.
It seems as if this is something that recently was seen with the defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. While the two of them were busy slugging it out on the stand in court, there were many influencers in real life who were speaking their mind.
Amy Schumer is one of those influencers.
Schumer is an American actress and comedian but what she had to say this day was anything but funny. She spoke out after the verdict came back, largely pointing to the fact that Johnny Depp was innocent and that Amber Heard was certainly not the victim.
This wasn’t a decision that the jurors came to lightly. They spent 14 hours in deliberation before they had the announcement read to the court. It all got its start, however, when Amber Heard announced in 2018 that she should be the poster child for domestic abuse.
Depp was awarded $15 million in damages and people had already drawn lines in the sand, long before the verdict was announced. Apparently, this included comedian Amy Schumer, who has her own verdict and she isn’t afraid to speak of it.
When Schumer went on Instagram, it was to quote a feminist, named Gloria Steinem. Although she didn’t mention either Johnny Depp or Amber Heard by name, you could really tell that she was directing in that way.
The post has since been removed from Instagram but it read, in part, “Any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke… she will need her sisterhood.”
Instagram was also the area where Amber Heard went online to express her opinion of what had happened. She said that she was heartbroken over the ruling and simply said that the disappointment she felt is beyond words. You can read more this in her post below:
She said: “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.”
Heard then went on to say: “It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke up could be publicly shamed and humiliated,” she said. “It sets back the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously.”
