Mother Gives Warning about Horrible Changing Mat Prank

Most of us don’t think much about changing our child at a changing station in a public restroom, outside of the fact that we want it to be sanitary. As you are soon to find out, however, you need to be concerned about much more than germs.

This was an experience of a mother from the UK who took her baby son into a public restroom in March, 2016. Her son, Samuel, was placed on the changing mat but quickly began to cry and scream. His mother, Haley, thought that he was just being fussy so she picked him back up.

It was then that she noticed his back was blotchy and red. After examining the underside of the changing mat, a shocking discovery was made. She wrote the following on Facebook:

It turns out some lowlife scum thought it would be ‘fun’ to deliberately put drawing pins in the bottom of the changing mat

It seems as if this prank of spiking” babies is not original. It has happened a number of times before, with several babies being injured in an Oxfordshire Village Hall.

After posting this to Facebook, it went viral and has received more than 100,000 shares. You can see her message below.

I don’t normally post things like this but I’m guessing if it happened to me it could happen to someone else, so I thought I’d spread a little word of warning to prevent it happening in the future…

Today I changed Samuels’ nappy on a public changing mat, somewhere I trust to be a safe place. When I led him down he screamed. I dismissed it as him being tired, cold and grumpy so I changed him as quickly as possible so I could give him a cuddle and calm him down.

It turns out some lowlife scum thought it would be ‘fun’ to deliberately put drawing pins in the bottom of the changing mat. Our poor baby boy was led on pins!!!

And because he isn’t old enough to tell me it hurt, he now looks like a pin cushion with 5 holes in total! Angry doesn’t even cover it.

It’s quite sad to think this has to be done but my word of warning is to CHECK YOUR CHANGING MATS!!

Always make sure you check the changing mats and tables for any issues before you use them. We don’t want this to happen to anymore babies.
