At times, the simplest change can make a huge difference in the lives of those who are affected by it. That is the case with these revolutionary maternity care beds that are being tested in a Dutch hospital. The bed includes a clip-on baby bassinet and it is truly making a difference.
When the mother must stay in the hospital for an extended amount of time, the mother and baby can be kept together, thanks to this invention. Although the baby may have been able to stay in the room prior to these clip-on bassinets, they do make the stay more comfortable.
The hospital website has this to say about the bassinets:
“Mother and child are thus close together and can touch each other without the intervention of a nurse. Breastfeeding is easier because the baby is nearby. Especially after a cesarean delivery, if the mother is not very mobile for a few days, the manger has great advantages. The mother can not help the baby to take with them and put them back.”
These bassinets are found at the Gelderse Vallei clinic. The clinic makes every effort to keep the mother and child together, especially during extended stays.
