As Prince George gets ready for the school year at Thomas’s, Battersea in London, he’s reportedly very excited about his new curriculum, which happens to include weekly ballet lessons.
Apparently, the little prince, who just turned six-years-old, was recently the topic of discussion on Good Morning America. Host Lara Spencer triggered intense backlash for her tone-deaf reaction to the prince’s new interest in ballet.
“Details of George’s curriculum have been released, making us all really happy we don’t have to do homework anymore,” Lara said on GMA. “In addition to the usual first or second grade things like math, science, and history, the future king of England will be putting down the Play-Doh to take on religious studies, computer programming, poetry, and ballet, among other things.”
Giggles could be heard from the talk show set and the audience as the segment cuts away to pictures of Prince George.
“Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet,” Lara continued. “I have news for you, Prince William; we’ll see how long that lasts.”
After the show aired, celebrities such as Rosie O’Donnell and George Takai were quick to condemn the comments and jump to the royal family’s defense. Not to mention, scores of viewers who took to social media to express their anger and disappointment over the host’s remarks, claiming were the equivalent of public bullying.
Since then, Lara has issued an apology on Instagram, which read:
“My deepest apologies for an insensitive comment I made during pop news on Thursday,” she wrote. “From ballet, which I took as a kid, to anything in life you wish to explore, I fully believe we should all pursue our passion. Go climb your mountain — and love every minute of it.”
What do you make of Lara’s comments? Were they a form of bullying, or is this a case of overreaching political correctness? Also, please be sure to share this story with your friends and family.
