Many of us may feel that we’ve had a good day, but can your day compare to what this woman is doing? She is changing lives on a daily basis and what she is doing is nothing short of amazing! Her name is Holly Christensen, and she is a former cancer nurse with plenty of compassion to go around.
Unfortunately, the cancer also touched close to her home as well when her best friend’s three-year-old daughter was diagnosed. Rather than sitting by idly, she decided to get back to helping people who suffer. She did not go back to the hospital as a nurse, she went to the local craft store and bought plenty of bright yellow yarn.
What she did with the yarn is amazing. She created a Rapunzel wig, complete with embellished flowers for her best friends daughter. She was able to wear it during her chemotherapy treatments.
We can only imagine the joy that this little girl got out of of her new wig. It also wasn’t long before the news began to spread and before you know it, The Magic Yarn Project was underway.
Holly wrote about the wigs on the project website…
“While not the most severe of side effects, hair loss can still be very difficult for cancer patients – especially for little girls – and chemotherapy treatments often leave patients’ bare scalps too sensitive for traditional wigs. To create head coverings for little cancer patients that are both comfortable and whimsical, Magic Yarn volunteers crochet soft yarn into beanies and then transform them into long, beautiful princess hair.”
Thanks to the effort of many people who have donated to a GoFundMe page, the wigs are free they also come in a number of varieties, including Little Mermaid’s Arial and Frozen’s Elsa wigs. Holly promises to continue to delight these young girls if she is able to raise $20,000 to turn the idea into a nonprofit.
In Holly’s words, “Magic is something you make!”
