Man Wakes Up After 3 Years In A Coma

Imagine living in a dream, where you have just married the love of your life and everything is going just as it should. Suddenly, however, tragedy strikes from out of nowhere and your significant other is put onto life support. On top of that problem, the doctors are not giving you much hope of recovery.

For Danielle Davis, that life was a sad reality. In July, 2011, she received a phone call from doctors who revealed that her husband, Matt, had been in a motorcycle accident in Savannah, Georgia.

The doctors didn’t hold out much hope for recovery but after three years on life support, being in a medically induced coma, Matt woke up. Upon waking, he said 2 simple words to his wife that she will always remember.

“I’m trying”

The accident occurred when Matt was merging onto an interstate and hit a vehicle that was parked illegally. He went flying off of his motorcycle, breaking multiple bones, suffering heavy brain trauma and lacerated organs.

He was completely incapacitated while laying in the hospital bed but Danielle would not leave his side. She prayed every day for him.

The doctors told Danielle there was nothing they could do to support Matt’s recovery. It was then that she faced a difficult challenge. She could either pull the plug or keep fighting.

Danielle said it was an easy decision to make. In her words, “I knew that God could get us through that. I didn’t think it was too big for God.”

Eventually, Matt was moved from the hospital to Danielle’s mother’s home in North Carolina. They cared for him around the clock.

Years had passed between the time of the accident and when he woke up to see his supportive wife by his side.

The doctors describe Matt’s recovery as “unprecedented” and he continues to make progress.

Thanks to her determination and Matt’s willpower, they now have a second opportunity.
