Ask any mother and they will tell you, having a baby is no small feat. It is something that requires a lot of work on the mother’s part, not only during the delivery but for the nine months leading up to it as well. For some people, having a child is not only difficult, it is nothing short of a miracle.
Sheree Psaila is a 22-year-old mother caring for a baby boy. She has a particularly difficult time, however, because she can’t pick him up to comfort him. This is due to a rare genetic condition in which she has no muscle tissue in her arms or legs.
Not only does it make caring for the baby difficult, the fact that she was able to have the baby in the first place is miraculous. You can learn more about her story through the images below:
Sheree Psaila defied the odds when she was born with an extremely rare condition. It is rthrogryposis multiplex congenita, and as a result, she has no muscle tissue in her legs or arms. Doctors didn’t expect her to live past her first birthday.
After 20 surgeries, it was suggested that she be put in a wheelchair and sent to a special needs school. She had a desire to walk, however, she was able to take her first steps by the time she was 5 years old.
While at university, she met Chris, who also has a hereditary condition and it affects his lower spine. They got married and were ready to start a family.
The first pregnancy ended in miscarriage but the second pregnancy was a success.
She said that the doctors told her that she couldn’t have children but they didn’t give her a reason why.
She is only 4 feet tall, so it was considered a miracle that the baby was able to grow to full term inside of her. They moved to Melbourne and she gave birth via cesarean section.
Hayden, their baby boy, was 5 1/2 pounds and completely healthy. He does not have any disabilities.
Their miracle baby is a testament to their strength, although they do have a long road ahead of them.
Psaila has a difficult time caring for the baby because of her condition.
Fortunately, she has a caregiver who comes in five days a week to help out and her husband is a great caregiver as well.
When they go swimming, she is able to hold the baby in the pool.
Despite struggling, she loves motherhood and taking care of her young child.
