Many of us think ahead to the day when we will no longer be here and we may wonder how we will be remembered. It’s not morbid to think of such things, it is actually considered to be healthy and many find it peaceful when they think about how others may honor them at their own funeral.
At times, the most powerful things about us are the things we leave behind. They provide a reminder, and it often makes others smile when they see them, just because they are thinking about us.
When a woman passed away in Nebraska, she left a legacy behind and will be remembered for a long time. The reason why is because of her quilts.
This picture of a funeral was posted to a Facebook group called quilting.
She probably knew it would be of interest to those in the group. They were touched by how the quilts were used at her grandmother’s funeral as a reminder of her.
Her grandmother, Margaret, was an avid quilter and was quite good at it. She had dozens of quilts in her home as part of those she made during her lifetime
The family and friend joined together at the funeral to showcase the quilts.
It certainly was fitting for a woman who spent so much time quilting. She gave them to everyone she cared for hin her life.
Her granddaughter said she gave quilts to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for important days in their lives, such as weddings and graduations.
If you know much about quilting, you already realize how amazing it is to accomplish so much in your lifetime.
It is a labor intensive hobby, even for those who know what they are doing.
Simple quilts can take a long time and more elaborate quilts can take months to complete.
Many people make quilts that are memorials for someone who has passed on. They are often used at the wake and might include a message. They may also be made out of the clothes from the person who passed on.
They may even make the quilt in the shape of an angel.
In Margaret’s case, it is a heartwarming reminder. The love she put into quilting is shown in the love others had for her.
