The death of a loved one is one of the most difficult things that we have to face. That is why grief is one of the strongest human emotions, and it is one that we may never quite get over.
All of us wish that we had at least one more day to live with our loved ones, and this family may just have gotten that wish.
Athena, a 13-year-old girl, struggled with bone cancer and eventually lost her life as a result of it. Just days after her passing, her father was going through her things when he found something absolutely incredible.
She had written a message for the world to read and had hidden from view. It was found on the back of a full-length mirror, along with a handwritten note.
Athena had six sisters and three brothers. She was always an optimistic girl, even during the time that she was going through chemotherapy.
The note was nearly 3000 words long and it was basically a handbook for how to live through a tragedy. Here are some of the words of wisdom that she left behind.
Happiness depends upon ourselves. Maybe it’s not about the happy ending, maybe it’s about the story.
The purpose of life is a life of purpose. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.
Happiness is a direction not a destination. Thank you for existing. Be happy, be free, believe, forever young.
Every day is special, so make the most of it. You could get a life-ending illness tomorrow so make the most of every day. Life is only bad if you make it bad.
If someone loves you then they wouldn’t let you slip away no matter how hard the situation is. Remember that life is full of ups and downs, without the downs the ups don’t mean anything.
There is no reason to cry, because I’ll know you’ll be by my side.
The note may have sat there unread for years, but fortunately, the father looked at the back of the mirror.
Not only does the family have something to treasure, we have something to treasure from it as well.
