Children with Down Syndrome at Their Happiest Moments

Laura Kilgus is a photographer with a very unique talent. She is passionate about children with Down syndrome and she is using her abilities to help families capture the perfect moment when their child is at their happiest! What she is doing is changing lives.

She first became interested in taking these photographs when her five-year-old nephew was diagnosed with Down syndrome. Her nephew, named Tommy, received his diagnosis four years ago. Since he was a baby, Laura has taken pictures of him. It started as a way for her to bond with her nephew but now, it has grown to involve the entire community!

1

Laura has contacted the Down Syndrome Society of Rhode Island in an effort to find more families who are raising children with Down syndrome.

2

Thanks to the assistance of that society and word-of-mouth, she was able to meet many other families in her community of Providence, Rhode Island who are raising children with Down syndrome. Laura wanted to help them through her talent as a photographer.

She started to offer photo shoots to families of children with Down syndrome and she offered them for free.

3

The parents absolutely loved her photographs, as she was able to catch the playful and joyful side that each of those children possessed.
