As parents, we want our children to eat healthy meals but they seem to gravitate toward junk food. Not only do they love fast food, such as McDonald’s, they will eat any prepackaged sugary food that is in front of them. It’s not all their fault, a lot of it has to do with advertising and let’s face it, it tastes delicious.
The struggle to get children to eat healthy food can be difficult, but it is not impossible. In fact, this father found a clever way to trick his children into eating healthy home cooked meals. He created ‘dad friendly’ fast food as an alternative.
This is Matthew Blake, with his two sons.
These are some of his signature “dad” sandwiches and they get the children very excited.
“I don’t often get a chance to cook for the boys as I work so much, so when I do get the chance I try and make an effort to give them something they will enjoy and be healthy.”
He realizes his children weren’t eating the dinners he was cooking and they were begging him for fast food.
“It actually started a couple of weeks ago at the start of the school summer holidays. I was cooking a simple meal of chicken and rice for the boys, who thoughtfully told me it sounded disgusting and would refuse to eat it.”
He told them this was his own version of that fast food and they tried it.
He even designed look-alike logos so they would have the appeal of fast food meals. One of his children even asked if Daddy-Donald’s would cater his birthday party!
We think this is genius, and we will be trying it as well.
