Kenyatta Lewis and her daughter were leaving a grocery store when they walked by a homeless man. Her daughter noticed that the man was crying and asked her mother what was wrong with him.
The mother said “maybe he’s just sad” and her daughter thought that he might be hot and thirsty. The young girl then walked over to the man and said “Hi sir, be happy it’s a nice day, it’s not raining. Are you hot? Why don’t you go home, the ground is dirty.”
The man told the little girl that he had no home and the mother said she looked at him with the saddest face and said “So that means you’re homeless?”
It was then that the girl reached for her purse and pulled out a few dollars she had saved for herself. She gave it to the man and told him to go eat.
The mother and daughter then had a brief conversation with the man. He told them that his trailer had burned down and he lost everything he had, including his wife. After her daughter gave the man some money, two adults also donated money to him.
“It just warms my heart,” she wrote on the Love What Matters page. “A 6-year-old lead by example this morning. AWESOME! Kids see no colour and that’s exactly how it should be. It’s not just a statement saying that children are our future, it’s a FACT. That gives me a little hope for the world.”
