When the Olympics start, people from around the world come together to represent their home country in some of the best competitive sports on the planet. In the end, it isn’t only about winning, it is also about be compassionate, fair and a part of the team.
Each athlete is competing for the top prize, the gold medal. Jeff Henderson, from the U.S., is a long jumper who won that prize and he is happy for a very unique reason.
It isn’t winning the gold that really mattered, it was being able to show it to his mum, who has been dealing with Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years. You see, before he left for Rio, he promised his Mum he would bring home the gold, and he did.
After bringing the medal home, he placed it on his mother’s bed, which was draped with the American flag. He then posted the picture to Instagram. The picture has gone viral.
Jeff Henderson is a long jumper for Team USA.
He promised his mom he would bring home the gold from the Rio Olympics and when he did, he would bring it home and dedicate it to her.
He did win the gold!
He kept true to his promise and came home with the medal in hand
He then placed the gold on his mum’s bed and captured the moment in a photo.
