Mom Wants Son To Know That Chores Aren’t “Just For Women” So He Does Them Regularly

In today’s world, many children have gotten away from doing chores and it is something that not a few parents have concerns over. After all, when it comes to doing chores such as washing towels, loading the dishwasher or making dinner, allowing the children to get away without doing the chores could lead to problems down the road.

One mother of two, Nikkole Paulun, has decided to do something about it. She is teaching her son how to do household chores so that he will grow up thinking that it is not just work for women. She posts pictures of her son doing his chores on Facebook and they have gone viral. There are a number of reasons why she wants her young son to do chores, and you might be surprised with her insight.

“Because one day he might be a single man, living on his own, who will actually know how to do laundry & not eat take out every night,” she explained. “Because one day he might want to impress a significant other with a meal cooked by his own hands.” Making meals was how my fiancé wooed me, so we know the value of that skill in our house. “Because it’s okay to let your child be a child but still teach them lifelong lessons along the way,” Paulun explained.

Another reason why she decided to have her child do chores is because she wants her son to do his fair share at home when he is married. She is concerned that some men think household chores are something only women should do. The easiest way to make changes is to start them in your own household.

She doesn’t just want a son who understands how to do chores, she wants someone who is well-rounded as an adult. As she puts it, “My son will never be too ‘manly’ to cook or do chores. He will be the kind of man who can come inside from changing a tire to check on his pot roast. Who can properly sort his laundry and mow the lawn too.”

She also has a message for other motivated parents: “Remember parents, a man who believes he shouldn’t have to cook or do chores was once a boy who was never taught any better.”
