Free libraries are a rather unique phenomena and they have been seen popping up in neighbourhoods around the world. Recently, somebody took the idea to the next level when they wondered why they were so successful. They thought, if these free libraries are popular for those who want books, what about coming up with a free pantry system?
The first free pantry was established when she was funded for $250. The project was immediately a success and now over 10,000 people are fans on Facebook. There are many others who have been inspired to build these free pantries in other areas as well.
When Jessica saw little free libraries being established in her town, she came up with a better idea.
She built a small free pantry so people can leave goods and food for those in need
The first free pantry was established on the 10th of May.
Jessica was amazed with how people responded. They were filling the pantries in no time.
There are now more than 10,000 people who are fans of this project on Facebook. Other little pantries are popping up in different locations.
“Peanut butter and jelly, feminine hygiene products and nappys are in demand”
“My feeling is little free structures both create space for neighbourliness and address social problems”
This pantry is close to a school and she makes sure that it has school supplies.
You can either support the project by adding items or by starting your own free pantry.
