The fact that the woman didn’t have enough money to pay for groceries is a sad situation in itself but the others watching & berating her is something that shouldn’t happen in our communities. We’re glad this woman was there to brighten up her day and change things for the better.
Standing in the grocery store line at Wal Mart and its taking even longer than usual ( which is already longgggg). Im reading a magazine & I hear the woman ahead of me is complaining SUPER loud about how long it’s taking the woman in front of her to check out. She says TO HER KIDS this is why you get a decent education so you won’t be poor and inconvenience the rest of us…. Up until then I hadn’t been listening but my ears perked up when I heard that. Turns out the woman in front of her had insufficient funds and her card was declined.
I look and all I can see is a bag of potatoes, 2 bags of beans, one pack of ham and bottled waters. I realize she is trying to put some things back and run her card but its declined again. She looks at us (with the most sad look on her face) and says im so sorry I just need to call my husband really quick. Meanwhile the rude woman looks and me and rolls her eyes silently trying to get me to agree and condone her attitude while her kids dump about $30 worth of candy and slim Jim’s in her cart. The woman checking out closes her phone and says “my husband bought gas… It’s not going to go through…I’ll put everything back up I’m so sorry”. The rude woman looks at me and says “OMG can you believe some people”…
I looked her square in the eye and said “yes i know…. sometimes it blows my mind how heartless people can be” stepped past her and paid for the woman’s groceries…. The look on her face was something I’ll Never forget. She was taken aback that her attitude was what bothered me and not having to stand in line because of this other woman’s situation. The woman checking out grabbed my hand and said you have no idea how much we needed you to be behind us today and kissed me on my cheek. Took about everything in me not to cry…. See the thing is is wasn’t so long ago I was that woman at checkout. Standing there trying to make a decision between food, gas or diapers. Don’t you ever judge someone. You have no idea what led them to that situation. As she turned to walk out I said “thank you”… She looked so confused so I told her why….
“You just remind me of myself a few years ago and how blessed I truly am and how far I’ve come, you’ll get there too so don’t give up… God’s got a plan for you”. I walked right back past the rude woman looked her square in the eye and said “I hope you are never in that position but if you ever are I bet you remember today real clearly … I’ll
Be praying for you”. Then I flipped my magazine back open.
