Olympic Swimmer Makes Comment About Her Period

There are many Olympic athletes to follow in the summer games, but Fu Yuanhui has become one of our favorites. It is not only the funny faces that she makes and her attitude, it is her candid response that makes us admire her.

After competing in the 4×100 m relay, the Chinese swimmer, along with her team, were interviewed by a reporter with CCTV. As they were interviewing Fu, the camera panned down and you see the 20-year-old swimmer squatting on the ground.

The interviewer saw Fu in a lot of pain and mentioned that her stomach must hurt a lot right now.

Fu responded with “My period came last night and I’m really tired now. But this isn’t an excuse, I still did not swim as well as I should have.”

Most people consider the menstrual cycle to be a taboo subject, but Fu’s candid response makes us appreciate her as an individual.

Many of us look at Olympic athletes has been superhuman but they can’t plan certain events, such as their menstrual cycle, around the dates of the competition. They simply work their way through it.
