As our parents or grandparents reach their golden years, it sometimes becomes necessary for the family to make a decision. After all, they may need some type of specialized care and we may not be able to provide it adequately for them. These changes may come about due to a problem with their health, a decrease in mobility or simply because we want them to be cared for in the best way possible.
Across the United States, many people look to assisted living facilities as a solution to this problem. Unfortunately, those facilities can be quite expensive and they don’t always give the care that we would like to see our loved ones get. In addition, there may be privacy issues and there have even been reports of abusive behavior by the staff in some of these establishments! There is a man, however, that is trying to change this.
His name is Ken Dupin, and he also recognized the lack of freedom and integrity in most assisted-living facilities. That is when he came up with the idea for the MedCottage.
These cottages are very similar to traditional tiny homes that you may see from time to time. The real difference is, they are designed to be placed in your backyard rather than being placed on their own property. Some people refer to them as a “Grainy Pod,” but regardless of what you call them, it may be possible to have one on your property as well. It allows your loved ones to be near without actually living inside of your home.
The utilities feed from the main home. It uses the same electricity and water supplies as your house.
You will be amazed with what the interior of these homes look like!
Depending upon the needs and size requirements of the tenant, they have 3 different models available.
Inside of each MedCottage is a kitchen, bathroom, laundry area and living space. The living space also includes a dining room
Inside of the largest model is an extra bedroom. This would allow for a full-time caregiver to be on the premises.
As you would expect, the entire home is handicap accessible.
The best feature, however, is the fact that your loved one will not be very far away from you.
