All of us need to deal with authority in some way or another. It doesn’t matter if it is a parent, a boss or a teacher, there is always going to be somebody telling us what to do. Although they may steer us properly at times, there may also be times when they come up with a rather frustrating decision. That is what happened to this shop owner in Belgium, but he took matters into his own hands in a hilarious way.
The shop owner realized that a garage was necessary to keep his car safe. Rather than just building the garage he needed, he went to the city for a permit. The city denied his request. It seems as if it was all over for the shop owner, until he did something unexpected.
It took a little creativity (and a lot of sneakiness) but his solution is taking the Internet by storm. Some people consider him a rebel, I consider him a hero.
His name is Eric Vekeman. The city turned down his request to build a garage but he refused to take their answer lying down.
“My whole life I owned a food shop. When I closed it, I wanted to turn it into a garage, with an automatic door. But the townscape in the Flemish Ardennes is protected, so they wouldn’t let me change anything. Not even an automatic door.”
For two years, he worked in secrecy on a project that would offer the solution he needed.
In the mornings, he now removes a bench and a fake wall to reveal something awesome.
It is a garage door, and it is hidden in plain sight!
After opening the garage door, he adds ramps and drives away.
Although it may seem like a lot of work, it only takes him 2 minutes.
Do you want to know the best part? The city is allowing him to keep it!
He plans on automating the door for his next project.
It may not be the most convenient option, but at least it is an option that makes him feel comfortable.
