We hear a lot of reports about skin cancer but unfortunately, many people tend to ignore the seriousness of this problem. This includes a man by the name of Steve, who wanted to share his experience with skin cancer.
Unfortunately, Steve eventually gave way to the illness but his friends and family still wanted to share his experience through the photo documentary that he left behind. It is in hopes that others will pay attention and do something about this illness if they recognize the signs.
Steve did not pay attention to the signs when he first noticed a tumor that was around the size of a marble. In fact, the tumor grew to the size of a baseball before he went to a dermatologist for assistance.
Surgery took place in which the tumor was removed but after a test, it was shown that the tumor was melanoma. A secondary surgery was provided to remove any surrounding muscle, tissue and lymph nodes
Further complications occurred after the second surgery, including Steve’s lungs filling up with blood. This required a emergency trip to the hospital in the middle of the night.
After Steve was released from the hospital, interferon treatment started on a daily basis. Eventually, the interferon dosage was reduced to only three times a week. New problems begin to surface, including confusion of letters and numbers and stuttering.
One day Steve woke up unable to move on one side of his body and again, he was rushed to the hospital. It was during that trip to the hospital that a tumor was found in his brain.
Steve took this picture after the tumor was discovered.
Steve admitted that one of the most difficult parts of his ordeal was not being able to communicate with others.
A six-hour surgery took place in which the brain tumor was removed. A staff infection caused Steve to stay in the hospital for an extended amount of time. Eventually, he was able to get out of the hospital and be reunited with his family.
After the brain operation to remove the tumor, Steve had to have radiation treatments. Those additional treatments lead to seizures and additional problems, including an inability to hear or talk.
A part of his skull was removed in another surgery because of swelling. This required him to wear a helmet, although Steve tried to maintain a positive attitude.
An additional brain surgery became necessary. Prior to the time he had surgery, Steve took a picture of himself waving goodbye and asked that his loved ones not be sad.
After a fourth brain surgery to restore a bone flap, a brain infection was discovered. It took approximately one month before Steve was able to get out of bed and walk again.
Steve spent some time at home with his family.
He also took a car ride with his children
Steve said goodbye to his wife…
Although Steve passed away, he is still remembered fondly and loved by his family and friends.
