When most of us think about taking a vacation to someplace beautiful, our thoughts might turn to the Caribbean or perhaps another exotic location. If your idea of paradise is sun bathing near crystal waters, walks through romantic ruins or perhaps dining on seafood, it is as close as Cornwall.
If you have never experienced the beauty of Cornwall before, these 15 locations should be on the list. Look as much as you like, you are not going to find 15 more stunning areas elsewhere on the planed.
1. Botallack Mine
Located between St. Just in Penwith and Pendeen village, these abandoned mines are a great attraction for a reason. Not only are they beautiful to see, it won’t cost you a penny to see them
2. St. Loy
This beautiful area on the South West coast has beautiful valleys and shore sands, strewn with boulders. If you are coming to the area of St. Loy, make sure you hike the South West Coast Path. It will take you past historical monuments, beautiful wetlands and panoramic views that will take your breath away.
3. Cawsand and Kingsand
Located on the Rame Peninsula, these adorable villages were once regularly used by smugglers. It will only take you 45 minutes to drive from Plymouth. Not only is the scenery lovely and quaint, you will find the freshest seafood at the local restaurants.
4. Porthcurno
This area is located in a small valley with a white sand beach. It may be located in Cornwall but it looks like it is straight out of Tahiti. During WWII, This area was a major hub used for intelligence. You can still visit the tunnels that were dug during the war.
5. Wheal Coates, St. Agnes
This area used to be a tin mine. It is located on the north coast, between St. Agnes and Porthtowan. You can see building from the 1870s and take a tour inside a mine shaft at low tide. The beach is beautiful!
6. Camel Estuary
The River Camel goes for 30 miles between Bodmin Moor and the Celtic sea. Padstow is located on it’s banks. There has been evidence uncovered in this area that people have lived here since the Bronze Age.
7. Rough Tor
Located in the South-Western part of England, Rough Tor is stacked with enigmatic store formations. It is one of Cornwall’s twin peaks and the view is amazing.
8. Lands End
This can either be the beginning or the end of the longest road trip in the UK, at over 1,407 km in length. In this area, there is plenty of natural beauty to keep you busy, even if you aren’t taking to the road. You can walk along the cliffs of Sennen Cove or do some do some bird watching
9. Fowey
The Royal Regatta is held here every year in August, but there is more to this area than the royal affair. When you visit the area, you can’t help but get caught up in the beauty, which is everywhere you look. You can also take the 15 minute walk to St. Catherine’s Castle.
10. Trevose Head
You will love the panoramic views along the North coast of Cornwall as you head up to Trevose Head. Make sure you visit the lighthouse, which has been guarding the coast since 1847.
11. St. Ives
This is the perfect location for a holiday. It doesn’t matter if you are enjoying Porthminster Beach or a cup of tea at Olive’s Cafe, it’s a great place to be. It is also an arts center, with many sculptors and painters being inspired by the surroundings.
12. Marazion
If arts and crafts are your thing, you will certainly love this area. Many artists make this town their home and they show their work in the town’s galleries. Make sure you take time to reflect while viewing St. Michael’s Mount coming out of the sea offshore.
13. Bedruthan Steps
Between Newquay and Padstow are stone stacks on the beach from eons of erosion. According to ledgent, Bedruthan used these stones as a short-cut across the bay.
14. Newquay
Many consider this area to be the surf capital of the UK. It certainly does attract many who want to hang out on the beaches and try their boards on the surf. If you aren’t into surfing, make sure you check out the beauty of the area or enjoy an ice cream cone at a local cafe.
15. Polzeath
Located near Wadebridge, this coastal town also offers surfing as well as many other outdoor activities, including hiking and cycling. It doesn’t matter how you get around, this area is beautiful to see.
