Christmas is just around the corner and family members are going to be looking for gifts that they can give to their precious little ones.
Every year, there are new toys that enter the market and some of them gain popularity quickly. One of those toys this year are Bunchems, and they seem to be popular with the children. Don’t let the popularity fool you, however, because they hide a rather sinister secret.
Bunchems are manufactured by Spin Master and are small plastic balls that stick to each other. They can really boost a child’s creativity, because they can be built into any shape and can be used to create anything from animals to buildings. On the outside, the concept is quite fantastic.
As many parents are learning, however, these toys can pose a significant difficulty and those parents are taking to the Internet to warn others and to vent their anger.
It seems as if Bunchems are not only a fun toy, they can easily get tangled in hair and once that happens, they are quite difficult to extract.
You can read some of the reviews from those frustrated parents below…
Spin Master, a toy company, has created this popular toy. They are available across the United States and elsewhere and are small balls that can be stuck together to create unique shapes.
The initial response to the release of this toy was largely positive. Since those early times, may parents have begun to voice their concerns about this toy.
It seems that Bunchems can cause real problems when they get stuck in a child’s hair. Many parents have voiced their anger in online reviews, saying how hard they are to get out once they are stuck.
“Bought this as a ‘feel better’ gift for a kid stuck at home for a week with a bad fracture. It was all she wanted because it was all over the television. It took 15 minutes for 15 of these plastic burrs to become embedded in her hair, and 5 minutes for her friend to irreversibly damage her hair trying to remove them so they wouldn’t have to show me.”
“Just don’t do it, don’t buy these. My poor niece with long beautiful hair begged me not to cut it. Soldiered for 9 hours on her birthday before gracefully giving up. Her butt length hair is now chin length I was luck to save that much. These toys are ridiculous.”
Many parents are complaining that they needed to take their young girls for haircuts once the toys got embedded
“Unless you were planning on getting your kid a pixie cut or shaving their head already, don’t buy these!”
Some of the angry parents have added tips to help other parents remove these toys once they are stuck
According to Arlene Biran, the vice president of marketing for the toy company, Bunchems “are intended only to be adhered to other Bunchems.” She also said that the package warns kids and parents to keep the toys away from the hair.
In response to the issues, a video has been released by the company showing how to remove Bunchems from hair. Their tips included using hair conditioner or vegetable oil
It is always best to read online reviews and warning labels before giving a toy as a gift.
