Although there are many birds in the wild, one of the fastest and most amazing is the hummingbird. They make their way from one flower to the next and it is rather incredible to watch them as their wings become a blur before our very eyes.
When you look closely at a hummingbird, you can’t help but notice the incredible beauty. There are many vibrant colours on some of the hummingbirds, and it always deserves a closer look. Fortunately, one photographer was able to capture the detail for you.
Tracy Johnson discovered that she loved taking photographs right in her own garden. That area has long been a popular location for local hummingbirds so she decided to point her camera in their direction. Most of the first pictures turned out blurry but then she finally got one that wasn’t.
Since that amazing first photograph, Johnson has continued to take portraits of any hummingbird who are nearby. She loves capturing their colouring on film.
About 20 hummingbirds are regular visitors to her garden and each one is different from the other. They also have unique personalities.
Johnson’s work shows an animal that is absolutely free to move about. She just needs to be at the right place at the right time.
In order to get these photos, she will sometimes sit by their favourite flower for up to 30 minutes. After taking a picture, they leave and it may be another 30 minutes before the other arrives.
