Pit bulls are often given a bad rap in the media but, as any pit bull owner could tell you, they have a heart as good as gold. They tend to be as sweet and loving as any other dog and, when they are part of a loving family, they fit right in very well.
People’s opinions do differ when it comes to pit bulls, but when it comes to what happened to these dogs, there is no variation of opinion. They were abandoned by an owner who was put in jail and fighting for their lives until they were discovered by animal services.
Now that they have been found, they are on their way to good health again and looking for forever families.
You can see what happened in the images below.
Authorities were called in after neighbours started smelling a sickening scent coming from the home next door. Animal control was called in to explore and what they found inside is shocking.
The house was absolutely filthy!
“We’re talking a scene from Silence of the Lambs,” senior public information specialist John Welsh explained to NBC Los Angeles. “It was the smell of death.”
It among all the mess were 40 malnourished pit bulls. 11 of them had passed away inside of the home before authorities arrived at another died shortly after being rescued.
The owner of the home was in jail for drug trafficking and his wife is missing. Since there are so many dogs of the same breed, it is assumed that they were breeding the dogs before they abandoned them.
Some dogs were so weak that they had to be carried from the house. A few of them were frightened of their rescuers, but others were excited to see someone and rushed up to greet them.
After the dogs were accounted for, they were rushed for emergency care. They were put on a special diet to help them gain weight.
So far, everything seems to be going very well. They are getting healthier and are gaining weight. The next step is to find them homes.
Some dogs have not been socialized and are somewhat squeamish, which is understandable, considering what they just went through. The service is showing the love and affection that was denied to them in that home.
