We live in a world where many people talk about disposable marriages and the statistics are there to back things up. Certainly, it can be difficult to stay in a lasting marriage and even if we do, keeping the romance and love alive presents a whole other set of problems. Those issues are seen worldwide and they are especially seen then the marriage is in the public eye.
We often look to celebrities as the symbol of style, but they aren’t often a good example when it comes to marriages. That is, of course, unless you are looking to one of the rare examples, such as Tom Hanks. He has been married to his bride, Rita Wilson, for 28 years and they don’t show any signs of stopping their love affair. This is true in a genuine way. They are just two people who love being together.
Hanks was recently asked about his long term relationship secret and he shared his thoughts:
“We just like each other. You start there.”
He said they got married for all of the right reasons and shared genuine affection for each other. He said he likes going home to Wilson after a long day and she feels the same.
His advice may be simple but there is a lot of advice behind it. Many people tend to complicate things when trying to learn how to make marriage work. When you get right down to it, it’s really about being able to enjoy your spouse.
You need to look forward to seeing your spouse’s face, to laugh together, to work and grow together.
Our looks may fade but Tom Hanks is quick to point out that having appreciation for your partner allows you to get through the difficult times.
