Police Officers Bring an Elderly Man Groceries

When we hear about police on the news, they are often not portrayed in the best light. In fact, the media often shows the in compromising situations, and it is rare for us to hear good news about what the police do. The fact of the matter is, the police are out there to serve and protect, and many of them take that responsibility to heart.

At times, we will hear a story about a policeman that does something so heartwarming, we can’t help but tell the world about it. That was the case when a group of police officers in a small town did something wonderful, and it truly helped some in the community.

Not only were the out there protecting the public in general, they were taking money out of their own pockets to help people who didn’t have enough money of their own. It was an awesome gesture and it is one that is certain to restore your faith in what these brave men do.

It started when the police received a phone call from an elderly man. He had a simple request and the Police Department responded quickly. He wanted to know if they could bring some food to his apartment.

The elderly man lived in a quaint area with only 5000 residents. It is a close-knit area, and people will often help out when problems occur.

This time was no exception.

The elderly man said he had not had any food in two days. He was 79 years old and his former caretaker had robbed him of his debit card, leaving him without funds in the middle of winter.

It isn’t known if he had any family in the area or not, but the police recognized that he had a need for help.

There was no one else to turn to, and the police were more than happy to help. As is the case in many small communities, they are familiar faces and you can rely on them when you are in need.

According to the official Facebook page, the officers sprung into action. They brought the elderly man enough food to stock his pantry for a month.

This didn’t come without cost. The men took $160 from their own pockets, put it together and bought the elderly man the groceries he needed. It was just in time as well, because a massive snowstorm came through the area just a week later.

These police officers not only helped out a single resident, they also started a food pantry for canned foods to help other residents in need.
