Remember This Starving Child Who Was Left To Die By His Parents? Just Wait Till You See Him Today

The online world was watching very carefully when a Danish aid worker was on a rescue mission in Nigeria in January, 2016. She saw a starving child who was dying and the moment was caught in a photograph that was quite haunting. She was tilting a water bottle toward the boys lips and it is a memory for many of us that touched us deeply.

A year has passed since that moment and the boy was able to make a full recovery. They have even made a re-creation of the first photo just to show you his progress. It started when Anja Ringgren Lovén saw the abandoned boy who was labeled as a witch. Many of these children are killed by their parents. The religious leaders in Nigeria will sometimes accuse children of witchcraft so they can charge parents for exorcism services.

You can see the timeline below and you will recognise just how much of a difference a year can make.

Remember this starving child in Nigeria from 2016?

This was his first day of school, one year after he was rescued

He was named Hope, but he had been left to die after his parents accused him of witchcraft

He had been taken to a hospital and was treated for stomach worms and malnutrition

Eight months after his discovery, he started to regain his energy and gain weight.

He got a fresh haircut to go along with his new lease on life

Hope recovered completely and you can barely recognise him from his earlier picture.

He lives in an orphanage with other children who were also accused of witchcraft by their parents

Who could think that this child was anything evil?

Anja Ringgren Lovén runs the orphanage and it proved to be a loving home for this young child.

She works for a Danish volunteer organization that is active in Nigeria

“All children have rights and those rights must be protected, always,” Anja writes on Facebook

One year of love and Hope has a fresh start
